IN the complex tapestry of Nigerian statecraft, there are politicians who occupy space, and then there are leaders who redefine it.

As Edo State navigates the critical currents leading toward the 2027 general elections, one name has emerged not just as a presiding officer of the legislature, but as the foundational bedrock of a new political era: Rt. Hon. Blessing Sheriff Agbebaku.

The Speaker of the 8th Edo State House of Assembly is no longer just a representative of Owan West; he has become the “Solid Rock” upon which the long-awaited liberation of the Owan nation is being built.

The Grassroots General: Politics Without Distance

The hallmark of a true trailblazer is the ability to ascend to the third-highest office in the state without losing the scent of the red soil of his origins.

Agbebaku is a unassuming grassroots mobilizer who has mastered the art of Retail Diplomacy. While others retreated behind the tinted glass of SUVs, Agbebaku remained in the town halls of Uhonmora-Ora and the markets of Uzebba in Iuleha.

He speaks the dialect of development—a language understood by the student receiving a free NECO form, the patient seeing the lights return to the Uzebba General Hospital, and the farmer navigating newly secured rural pathways. As political observers poignantly noted, Agbebaku understands that “performance is the new godfather.”

The Architect of Stability: Legislative Statecraft

Beyond the borders of Owan, Agbebaku’s speakership has been a leadership in institutional harmony. In a political climate often defined by the friction between the Executive and the Legislature, he has pioneered a model of “Separation of Powers without Separation of Purpose.”

Under his gavel, the 8th Assembly has transitioned from a theater of conflict to a laboratory of progress. By fostering a winning team synergy with the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo, he has ensured that Owan West is not just a participant in state politics, but its strategic anchor. Therefore, there’s no use changing the winning team.

The Humanist in the Mace

Politics is often a cold business, but Agbebaku has infused it with a rare brand of humanism. Whether it is through the EduRescue initiatives or his “open-door” policy that treats every constituent as a stakeholder, he has proven to be a leader who carries everyone along.

His recent endorsement by the six political wards of Iuleha—the largest clan in the LGA—was not a mere political formality; it was a “grassroots referendum.”

When traditional rulers, retired security chiefs, and youth parliaments unite to demand his return, they are not endorsing a person; they are endorsing a standard of excellence.

The March Toward 2027

As the Speaker officially declares his interest this April 24 at the APC Secretariat in Sabongidda-Ora, the message to Edo State is clear: The Owan Renaissance is unstoppable. Blessing Agbebaku represents the bridge between a proud past and a digital, prosperous future.

He is the political wizard who saw the need for a unified Owan and the “Peace-Maker” (Okhialele) who realized it. The path to 2027 is paved with the “Dividends of Democracy” that Agbebaku has consistently delivered.

For the people of Owan West, the choice is no longer about party lines; it is about sustaining the “Rising Tide” of a leader who towers above his peers in service, humility, and vision.

The verdict is in: For Owan’s liberation, for Edo’s stability, and for continued progress—Blessing Agbebaku is the only way forward.

True leadership is not about how high you climb on the political ladder, but how deep your roots go in the political soil.
