The Conservator-General and Managing Director of the Bauchi State Tourism Development Corporation, Dr. Muhammad Nasir Yusuf, has urged the State Government to establish meteorological stations in all three senatorial zones to strengthen data collection for planning and development.
Dr. Yusuf made the call on Monday during an interactive session at the ongoing five-day capacity-building workshop for Permanent Secretaries and Directors of Administration and Human Resources, held at the International Conference Centre, Bauchi.
He noted that the stations would enhance data interpretation for environmental conservation, agriculture, public health, and climate change mitigation. “Reliable meteorological data is vital for protecting ecosystems, supporting farmers, and safeguarding communities from climate-related risks,” he said.
The Conservator-General reaffirmed his commitment to developing eco-tourism, wildlife conservation, and cultural heritage promotion in the state. He said the Corporation is working to reposition Bauchi as a premier West African tourism destination, create jobs, and protect key wildlife species including hippos, elephants, and lions.
Dr. Yusuf emphasised ongoing efforts to make Bauchi a safe and attractive destination while leveraging tourism for economic growth and job creation.
The proposal to establish the meteorological stations has been described as a smart and forward-looking initiative. Stakeholders say it will boost tourism development, attract investment, and align with broader efforts to position Bauchi as a leading destination in Nigeria.
