Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has donated ₦50 million to the family of late Lt. Col. OC Okolo, who was killed during a Boko Haram attack in Mandaragirau, Borno State, on February 16, 2026.

The donation was announced during the officer’s funeral service held on April 10, 2026, in Obinofia Ndiuno, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Represented by his Special Adviser on Security, Brig.-Gen. Abdullahi Sabi Ishaq (Rtd), the governor said the gesture was part of the state government’s continued support to families of fallen heroes and personnel wounded in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations.
“On behalf of the government and people of Borno State, His Excellency expresses his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family,” the representative said. “He reiterates that late Lt. Col. OC Okolo was a gallant, dedicated and committed officer whose contributions to the nation will not be forgotten.”
“He also prays for the repose of the soul of the deceased and for God to grant the family the strength and fortitude to bear this painful loss,” he added.
Dignitaries at the funeral included representatives of the Chief of Army Staff, the Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI, the 25 Task Force Brigade Commander, members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), and members of the host community.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Prof. Stanley Okolo expressed deep appreciation to the governor for the support.
“We are sincerely grateful to His Excellency for the love and concern shown to our family,” he said. “The cash donation and the delegation sent from Maiduguri to attend the funeral, despite the short notice, mean a great deal to us.”
He also thanked the Chief of Army Staff and the General Officer Commanding 82 Division for sending representatives to honour the late officer.
