In the ever-evolving landscape of higher education in Nigeria, a few individuals stand out for their unwavering commitment to academic excellence, institutional development and community service.

Among such distinguished personalities is Dr. Mohammed Gazali Abdulhamid, a renowned mathematician, accomplished educationist, researcher and administrator whose career spans over three decades of dedicated service to the advancement of education.

The new Provost has served as the Deputy Provost (Academic) of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Gombe, Dr. Abdulhamid has established himself as one of the foremost advocates of quality teacher education, mathematical research and educational innovation in Nigeria.

A Journey Rooted in Excellence.

Born on February 12, 1970, in Gombe, Dr. Abdulhamid’s academic journey reflects determination, discipline and an enduring passion for knowledge. His educational pursuit began at Army Children School, Gombe, before progressing through Government Comprehensive Day Secondary School and Government Science Secondary School, Gombe.

Driven by an exceptional aptitude for mathematics and the sciences, he proceeded to Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi, where he obtained his Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) Advanced Level qualification.

He later earned a Bachelor of Technology degree in Applied Mathematics from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi.

His thirst for knowledge did not end there. He subsequently obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Management, a Master of Science degree in Mathematics and eventually a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mathematics from the same institution.

He also acquired professional teaching qualifications and certifications in computer studies, strengthening his expertise in both education and technology.

Distinguished Academic Career:

Dr. Abdulhamid’s rise through the academic ranks is a testimony to hard work, scholarship and professional competence.

Attaining the rank of Chief Lecturer in 2018, he has remained actively involved in teaching, research and mentorship, shaping generations of students and young academics.

Over the years, he has occupied several strategic positions within the Federal College of Education (Technical), Gombe, including:
Deputy Provost (Academic),
Member, Governing Council,
Director, GOFCECON Limited Consultancy Unit,
Acting Dean, School of Undergraduate Studies,
Head, Department of Mathematics,
Monitoring and Evaluation Officer.
Member, Academic Planning Committee,
Senior Examination Officer,
Time Table Officer and
Level Adviser.

Through these assignments, he has contributed significantly to policy formulation, academic planning, quality assurance and institutional growth.

A Researcher of International Repute:

One of the defining features of Dr. Abdulhamid’s career is his impressive research profile. His scholarly contributions span mathematics education, numerical analysis, differential equations, mathematical modelling, science education and educational development.

His research has attracted multiple grants from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), including projects focused on:
Mathematical modelling of blood flow for tumour treatment.

Strengthening mathematics and science education in North-Eastern Nigeria.

Development and utilization of instructional materials in mathematics.

Professional development of teachers through cluster school models.

His groundbreaking PhD research in Numerical Analysis earned national recognition, receiving an award for Outstanding PhD Thesis Research in Numerical Analysis during the Annual Conference of the Nigerian Mathematical Society.

With more than twenty scholarly journal publications and numerous conference presentations across Nigeria and beyond, Dr. Abdulhamid has contributed immensely to the body of knowledge in mathematics and science education.

His recent works on fractionalized Maxwell fluid models for blood flow simulation have further demonstrated the practical relevance of mathematics in solving complex medical and scientific challenges.

Advancing Mathematics and Science Education:

Throughout his career, Dr. Abdulhamid has consistently advocated innovative approaches to mathematics teaching and learning.
His studies on the ASEI-PDSI methodology, instructional material improvisation, teacher professional development and learner-centred education have provided practical solutions to the challenges confronting mathematics and science education in Nigeria.

Many of his research findings have influenced classroom practices, teacher training programmes and educational policies aimed at improving student participation and performance.

His contributions underscore the critical role of mathematics in national development, technological advancement and economic transformation.

Service Beyond the Classroom:

Beyond academia, Dr. Abdulhamid has demonstrated remarkable commitment to public service and community development.

He has served as:
Special Assistant to the Governor of Gombe State.
External Examiner to tertiary institutions.
Member of accreditation teams of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE).
Resource person for educational development programmes.
Workshop coordinator for UBEC and SUBEB projects.
Member of the Federal Road Safety Corps Special Marshal Unit.
Treasurer of the Gombe State Specialist Hospital Welfare Committee.

These engagements reflect his belief that education must extend beyond institutional boundaries to positively impact society.

An Accomplished Author and Mentor:

Dr. Abdulhamid has co-authored several textbooks that continue to support teaching, research and professional development. His publications include works on research methodology, science teaching, teacher professional development and foundational mathematics.

As a mentor, he has supervised students, guided young academics and nurtured future leaders in education and research. Many beneficiaries of his mentorship have gone on to excel in academia and professional practice.

Global Exposure and Continuous Learning:

Recognising the importance of lifelong learning, Dr. Abdulhamid has participated in numerous national and international conferences, workshops and capacity-building programmes in Nigeria, Ghana and the United Arab Emirates.

These engagements have enriched his professional experience and exposed him to emerging trends in research management, educational technology, innovation and institutional leadership.
