The Gombe State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Chinwe Nwachuku, on Thursday disclosed that two corps members of the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream II would repeat their service year, while another two were granted four months extension over service-related issues.

Nwachuku made the disclosure during her farewell address to corps members at the passing-out ceremony held in Gombe on Thursday.
Our correspondent reports that the event was nearly disrupted when a stray cow wandered into the venue, almost causing harm to passing-out corps members seated under a tree at the Gombe Local Government Secretariat, where the event was held.
Nwachuku said a total of 901 corps members successfully completed their national service in the state, comprising 503 males and 398 females.
“The total number of corps members passing out is 901, made up of 503 males and 398 females,” she stated.
The coordinator added, “Two corps members are repeating service, while two others are having four months extension.”
She commended the outgoing corps members for their resilience, discipline and commitment throughout the service year, noting that many distinguished themselves through active participation in community development projects and promotion of national unity.
“A year ago, you answered the call to national service and embarked on a journey filled with expectations, challenges, learning experiences and opportunities,” she said.
“Today, you stand proudly as individuals who have completed this noble national assignment with courage, resilience, discipline and commitment.”
Nwachuku praised the corps members for adapting to different cultural environments and upholding the ideals of patriotism, tolerance and selfless service.
“Throughout your service year, many of you distinguished yourselves through your dedication to duty, active participation in community development projects, and contributions toward promoting national unity and integration,” she noted.
The state coordinator conveyed the commendation of the Director General of the NYSC and appreciation from the Gombe State Governor to the corps members for their service to the nation.
“I am particularly delighted to convey to you the warm congratulations and commendation of the Director General of the NYSC. The DG acknowledges your sacrifices, dedication and invaluable contributions to nation building,” she said.
She urged the outgoing corps members to utilise the entrepreneurial and vocational skills acquired under the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme to become self-reliant.
“In today’s competitive environment, self-reliance and innovation remain critical tools for personal growth and national development,” Nwachuku added.
She also cautioned the corps members against embarking on night journeys and engaging in acts capable of tarnishing the image of the scheme.
“As you depart from the Scheme, avoid night journeys as well as actions capable of tarnishing your image and that of the NYSC,” she warned.
Nwachuku appreciated security agencies, employers of labour, traditional rulers and host communities for supporting the scheme during the service year.
She thereafter declared the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream II service year officially closed. gb
