Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on Saturday night set ablaze a primary school and a secondary school in Kautikari village, Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, forcing residents to flee into nearby bushes for safety.
Security sources said the insurgents stormed the community, which has witnessed repeated attacks over the years, at about 7p.m, unleashing panic among villagers.
“No casualty so far, but residents were forced to flee into the bush for safety,” one of the sources disclosed.
The latest attack comes amid growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Borno State, following the abduction of pupils of Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira-Uba Local Government Area, who have reportedly remained missing for nearly a month without any trace.
A resident of Kautikari said the community had previously come under attack by the insurgents, but public and private property had not been destroyed during those incidents.
“I wonder why they set ablaze the Primary School and Day Secondary School. Such attacks are unusual,” the resident said.
Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Borno State Police Command proved unsuccessful, as calls placed to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, were not answered and his telephone line was unreachable as of the time of filing this report.
