Nigerians, what is President Tinubu’s thinking?, by Destiny O. Enabulele

Nigerians are demanding the redeployment of the Osun State Police Commissioner. And they are right to demand it.

The reason is simple: high-handedness.

In the imbroglio currently enveloping Osun as the 2026 governorship approaches, the police have stopped looking like law enforcement and started looking like an attack dog. Arrests without charges. Raids that target only one side. N4.8m becomes “evidence” while bullion vans move freely elsewhere.

That is not policing. That is partisan pressure in uniform.

A Police Commissioner is not supposed to pick a side in an election. His job is to protect ballot, not bully voters. To secure lives, not scare opposition. To de-escalate tension, not manufacture it.

Osun people remember 2022. They remember how quickly politics turned bloody when security was used as a weapon. We cannot go back there.

So we warn: do not test us with election violence ahead of the governorship poll.

Redeploy this CP now. Bring in an officer with no known political godfather, no local bias, and a record of neutrality. Let INEC do its work. Let parties campaign. Let voters decide.

“Fight to finish” politics thrives when the referee wears one team’s jersey.

Mr. President, IGP, the world is watching Osun. If democracy must survive in 2026, it starts with neutralizing the trigger before it is pulled.

Because the last time we normalized this, it came for all of us.
