The National Emergency Management Agency in collaboration with the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency, on Sunday distributed relief materials to 300 displaced households in Takum local government area of Taraba state.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that the beneficiaries were drawn from Chanchangi, Yamma, Kufai Amadu, Mamie Market, Rubar and Sufa communities affected by the crises.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, the representative of the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs Zubaida Umar, Mr Malut Adam Hussain, expressed sympathy to the affected families and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting victims of disasters and conflicts across the country.
He urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the relief materials while embracing peaceful coexistence to prevent a recurrence of violence.
Also speaking, the Director of Administration, Taraba State Emergency Management Agency, Sani Garba Maisukwati, who represented the Executive Secretary of TSEMA, Dr Echuseh Audu, described the intervention as a demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing humanitarian challenges.
Maisukwati commended NEMA for its continued partnership with the Taraba State Government in providing support to vulnerable communities affected by disasters and conflicts.
According to him, the intervention aligns with Governor Agbu Kefas’ commitment to the welfare of citizens, particularly vulnerable persons affected by crises.
Beneficiaries from Peva-Chanchanji, Kufai Ahmadu and Manya who spoke to our correspondent commended SEMA, NEMA and Governor Agbu Kefas for constantly providing humanitarian assistance to them.
“We want to thank Governor Agbu Kefas and the humanitarian agencies for these relief materials. This is the fourth time we are receiving relief supplies from the government after the Fulani attacks on our communities.
“This has gone to show that the government is aware of the insecurity in our area. We want to appeal the government to deploy security to flush out the criminals and secure our communities for our safe return to the farms,” they appealed.
PERISCOPE also reports that, items distributed included bags of rice and maize, cartons of spaghetti, vegetable oil, tomato paste, seasoning cubes, iodised salt, guinea brocade, wax prints and mats.
