Watch how quickly APC responds whenever Peter Obi speaks. Watch how fast statements drop when his name is linked with Rabiu Kwankwaso. That is not strength. That is calculation.
So why are Tinubu and APC so jittery about an Obi-Kwankwaso ticket?
First, the math. 2023 showed Obi could take the South-East, South-South, FCT, and urban youth votes. Kwankwaso proved he could take Kano and a chunk of the North-West. Put them together and APC loses its comfort zone of dividing the opposition.
Second, the narrative. APC wants 2027 to be about “continuity and reforms.” Obi-Kwankwaso reframes it as “accountability vs establishment.” Two men who campaigned on cutting waste and production now become one story. That is dangerous for an incumbent.
Third, the energy. Obi mobilized first-time voters without structure. Kwankwaso mobilized grassroots with structure. Combine both and you have money, message, and movement.
Fourth, the North-South optics. It breaks the “regional candidate” box APC used last time. It forces APC to defend everywhere at once.
This explains the attacks. When you cannot ignore someone, you insult them. When you cannot debate their ideas, you respond “violently” with press releases, name-calling, and distraction.
But politics is not about who shouts loudest. It is about who builds the widest coalition.
APC knows this. That is why every Obi-Kwankwaso rumor gets a reaction within hours.
It is not fear of two men. It is fear of what happens when Nigerians stop voting in fragments, and start voting in one direction.
