Yobe State stakeholders including government officials, employers and security agencies have pledged better welfare and safety for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the state.
They made the pledge at the 2026 NYSC Corps Employers’ Workshop held in Damaturu.

The workshop, themed “Fine-Tuning Stakeholders’ Collaboration to Enhance Corps Members’ Welfare and Workplace Experience,” was organised by NYSC Yobe State to address challenges faced by corps members and ensure they are productive and protected during their service year.
Declaring the event open, the state NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Okochi Okpara, thanked stakeholders for their continued support and stressed that the success of the scheme depends on a safe and supportive work environment.
He urged employers to see corps members as partners in development, not just temporary staff.
Also speaking, Mr Emmanuel Oiba, Director of North East Area Office, who represented the NYSC Director General, Brig. Gen. O.O. Nafiu, reaffirmed the scheme’s commitment to the well-being of corps members.
He called on employers to provide proper orientation, mentorship and necessary working tools.
In two technical sessions, participants examined practical solutions.
The sessions led to syndicate group discussions where employers, MDAs, and security representatives drafted and adopted recommendations focused on better accommodation, workplace safety, timely allowances and improved supervision.
In the communiqué adopted at the end, stakeholders committed to regular engagement, prompt reporting of challenges and stronger synergy between NYSC, employers and security agencies to guarantee the safety of corps members, especially in the North East.
