Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has pledged full support for the establishment of the Nigerian Army’s 5 Division Headquarters in Makurdi, as well as other approved military formations across the state.
Alia made the commitment on Tuesday when he received the Army Headquarters Implementation Committee in Makurdi.
The governor commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the Nigerian Army for approving the new division, describing the move as a “historic step” toward strengthening security in the North-Central region.
He said the establishment of the 5 Division Headquarters would enhance military operations, improve the protection of lives and property, and boost public confidence in Benue and neighbouring Nasarawa and Kogi states.
Alia assured the committee of the state government’s cooperation and logistical support to ensure the successful take-off of the division and other military formations approved for the state.
According to him, the development would further strengthen Benue’s security architecture and improve the capacity of security agencies to respond to emerging threats.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working closely with the Federal Government and security agencies to promote peace, stability and sustainable development across Benue State and the wider North-Central region.
