Dr Pastor Paul Enenche, General Overseer of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, has warned against what he described as attempts to undermine or intimidate the Christian community in Nigeria, declaring that the Church will continue to stand, prevail and advance despite opposition.

Enenche gave the warning during Sunday service at the Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Glory Dome, Abuja, in an apparent response to recent controversial remarks by Islamic cleric, Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, on the Muslim-Muslim political arrangement and comments that sparked criticism among Christians.

Jingir, a prominent supporter of the Muslim-Muslim ticket, has repeatedly defended the Tinubu-Shettima arrangement ahead of the 2027 presidential election. In February, he reaffirmed his support for the ticket, saying any attempt to alter the combination could cost President Bola Tinubu the support of clerics.

The cleric has also previously made remarks accusing critics of the Muslim-Muslim administration of attempting to frustrate Muslims in government, while his more recent comments about Christians and the political direction of the country have generated widespread reactions online.

Although Enenche did not name Jingir in the portion of his Sunday message under review, his remarks were widely understood as a response to what he regarded as attempts to diminish the place and influence of the Christian faith in Nigeria.

Addressing his congregation, Enenche declared that those working against the Church should reconsider their position and warned that the Christian community should not be taken for granted.

“To the agents of the devil in our nation, in the name of Jesus, the Lord rebuke you, and the devil that spoke through you and everything that you represent,” he said.

The Dunamis pastor stressed that the Christian community remained a significant force in the country and would not disappear in the face of religious or political opposition.

“The Body of Christ is here, and will be here for a very long time,” Enenche declared.

He therefore urged those opposing the Church to repent, change their mindset and abandon what he described as opposition to Christianity.

“So, repent, have a change of mindset, and turn away from every opposition against the Church,” he said.

Enenche further declared that the Church would continue to withstand opposition and expand through what he described as the power of God.

“The Church of Jesus Christ will continue to stand, prevail, and advance in the power of God!” he declared.

The remarks come amid renewed debate over religious balancing in Nigeria’s politics as political actors and religious leaders increasingly position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections. Sheikh Jingir has been one of the most vocal proponents of retaining the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket, having also previously insisted that he would continue to support the arrangement.

Enenche’s intervention adds a fresh Christian voice to the increasingly heated debate, while his warning underscores concerns among some Christian leaders that political advocacy should not translate into religious exclusion or the disparagement of other faith communities.

The pastor’s central message was clear: the Church, in his view, cannot be intimidated, marginalised or taken for granted, regardless of the prevailing political or religious climate.
