“This, his altercations with the Adelekes seems to inform this quest for…”

So the new definition of “grassroots governance” in the State is 4,800 SAs and SSAs hired to bully people on Facebook?

Senator Okpebholo just announced plans to appoint 4,800 Special Assistants and Senior Special Assistants. The brief is not agriculture. Not health. Not roads. The job description, by his own government’s conduct so far, is clear: Facebook bullying, insults, and coordinated social media attack.

“Grassroots governance,” he called it. But what “Obubuyeye” is this?

Grassroots governance is boreholes in Ughogua, not bots in Benin. It is fixing roads in Iguobazuwa, not hiring 4,800 people to rain insults on critics from Oredo to Iguobazuwa. It is paying contractors inherited and nurses, not building a digital thug army with government money.

Edo’s problems are real. Poverty, unemployment, bad roads, insecurity. Yet the governor’s first big move is to expand the payroll for social media warriors. At a time when citizens are asking for solutions, government is answering with propaganda.

This is not governance. This is jobbery disguised as strategy. You do not deepen democracy by weaponizing abuse. You deepen it by delivering services.

If 4,800 aides are needed to defend your record online, then your record cannot defend itself.

Edo people deserve work, not war. Governance, not gossip.
