The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Gombe State University branch, has threatened to embark on a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike if its grievances with the Gombe State Government are not addressed within 14 days.

The union disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, following a congress meeting where members received a report from the National Executive Council on its recent visitation to the branch.

According to the union, the NEC had reviewed the outstanding issues between the university’s academic staff and the state government and directed the branch to commence preparations for industrial action if the grievances remained unresolved.

The statement signed by the branch Chairperson, Comrade Mustapha Muhammad, and Secretary, Comrade Aliyu Shelleng, said the congress resolved to commence the strike after the expiration of the 14-day ultimatum.

“The branch, as directed by NEC, resolved to commence a total, comprehensive and indefinite action to press home its demand upon the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum if the branch issues remained unaddressed,” the union said.

The ultimatum, according to the union, commenced on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

The branch said the decision followed the report presented by the ASUU National Executive Council on its engagement with the branch over the grievances involving the state government, among other issues.

The union urged members of the university community to take note of the development, stressing that the proposed industrial action would only commence if the issues were not resolved within the stipulated period.

The statement was titled, “Permission by the ASUU National Executive Council to Commence a Total, Comprehensive and Indefinite Strike Action.”

The union called on the relevant authorities to use the 14-day window to address the outstanding issues and avert a disruption of academic activities at the institution.
