President Tinubu has again proceeded to Europe on a three-week vacation as part of his annual leave for 2026. Without a handover note. Without an address to the nation. Without even pretending to care.

What does the Nigerian Constitution say when the President embarks on annual leave? Section 145 is clear: transmit a letter to the Senate President and Speaker, then the Vice President acts. It is not optional. It is law.

But law is for the poor. Power is for those above it.

For twenty-one days, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the man who signs treaties and approves billions, will be sipping espresso in Europe while Nigeria burns. Bandits in the North. Inflation in the markets. Fuel queues in Abuja. ASUU on edge. And the President is on “annual leave”?

This is not rest. This is abandonment. A handover note is not protocol. It is patriotism. It tells 200 million people: “The ship is not drifting. Someone is at the wheel.”

When a President treats the country like a rented apartment, he tells every governor, minister and thug that accountability is dead.

We are not a colony on holiday. We are a nation in crisis.

In 2027, we must sever leaders who vacation while we suffer. Leadership is presence. Leadership is responsibility. Leadership is signing a handover before boarding a plane.

Nigeria deserves better than a part-time President.
