Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has fired back at House of Representatives member James Faleke following a war of words over the outcome of the Osun State governorship election.
Davido, whose uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, secured re-election in Saturday’s poll, took another swipe at Faleke after the lawmaker dismissed his allegation that he was pressuring the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to alter the election result.
Faleke had said he travelled to Osun to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, just as Davido supported his uncle’s party, Accord.
But Davido, in a terse response on X, hit back at the lawmaker, writing: “Politics is not a career. Get a Job!”
The singer had earlier accused Faleke, alongside two other APC lawmakers, of attempting to “upturn the election result” and urged them to respect the wishes of Osun voters.
Faleke subsequently rejected the allegation, insisting that INEC could not be influenced by him or anyone else.
“I have never influenced or rigged before and I don’t plan to start now. Face your music while we face our politics,” the lawmaker said.
Davido, who played an active role in his uncle’s re-election campaign, has also repeatedly criticised the APC, declaring that he would never support the ruling party.
The latest exchange followed the conclusion of the election, with the Independent National Electoral Commission declaring Adeleke the winner after the collation of results in Osogbo.
Adeleke, the Accord candidate, polled 511,067 votes to defeat Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came third with 17,180 votes.
Following the declaration, Davido congratulated his uncle on securing a second term as governor of Osun State.
