“What is good for the goose is equally good for the gander.” It’s a classic proverb that also elucidates how not to govern a country.

Since it is freezing season, then the federal account should be suspended ahead of the 2027 presidential elections.

Nigerians are now calling for the freezing of federal government accounts by November, prior to the 2027 elections. And honestly, who can blame them?

We have watched this movie before. Ten days to Osun’s guber, state accounts were frozen. LG allocations have been withheld for over a year. The reason given is always “due process” or “investigation.” The effect is always the same: starve the state, blame the governor, then control the outcome.

If freezing is now our electoral strategy, let it be applied evenly. No sacred cows. If sub-nationals can be choked in the name of neutrality, then the center that controls INEC, security agencies, and the national purse should also go on ice.

Because what we are seeing is not accountability. It is weaponization. Crime, in Nigeria, has become a definition of convenience. Freeze opponents, fund allies, and call it democracy.

Come 2027, Nigerians are asking for one rule: same temperature for everyone. Freeze federal allocations from November. Lock the vault. Let no one use public money to run a campaign disguised as governance.

If Abuja refuses, then admit the truth. This is not about clean elections. It is about control.

Let the people choose. Unfrozen, unintimidated, and unrigged.
