The Gombe State Head of Civil Service, Prof. Muazu Shehu, has received the final report of the High-Powered Investigative Panel constituted to probe complaints against the state’s acting Director of Public Prosecutions, Abubakar Jungudo, Esq.

Shehu, who received the report on behalf of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, described the panel’s assignment as a “noble and sacred duty” undertaken with diligence and commitment.

The panel was inaugurated on July 31, 2026, following the suspension of the Acting DPP, with a mandate to investigate the complaints against him thoroughly, transparently and impartially, in line with due process.

This was contained in a press statement signed by Amos Fabulous, Information Officer, Office of Head of Civil Service.

Chaired by Justice Haruna Kerengs of the Gombe State High Court, the panel comprised representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigerian Bar Association and the Gombe State Ministry of Justice, while the Permanent Secretary, Establishment and Service Matters, served as secretary.

Receiving the four-volume report at the Conference Hall of the Office of the Head of Civil Service, Shehu said investigations of such nature were essential to strengthening public institutions and sustaining public confidence in government.

“This is how we build and protect the public service. Scrutiny ensures accountability, checks abuse of privilege, and reinforces quality service delivery by those entrusted with responsibility,” he said.

The Head of Service assured that the report, including its findings and recommendations, would be forwarded promptly to the governor for consideration and implementation.

He subsequently dissolved the committee on behalf of the governor and commended its members for their service, expressing hope that they would be available for similar assignments in the future.

Earlier, while presenting the report, Justice Kerengs said the volume and complexity of the complaints received by the panel necessitated an extension of its timeline.

He explained that the report was presented in four volumes comprising petitions and responses; evidence, documents and exhibits; proceedings and witness testimonies; and deliberations, findings and recommendations.

Justice Kerengs expressed confidence that the panel’s recommendations would address the issues raised and contribute to strengthening the relationship between the Ministry of Justice and security agencies.

He added that the recommendations would also help reinforce the administration of criminal justice in Gombe State.

On behalf of the panel, Kerengs thanked Yahaya for the confidence reposed in the members and for giving them the opportunity to undertake the assignment.
