The Taraba State Police Command on Monday said arrangements had been concluded to deploy personnel around the student hostels of the State College of Nursing Sciences, Jalingo, following a night attack on a female hostel.
The Nigerian Tribune reports that suspected members of a criminal gang invaded an external female hostel of the institution and attacked students on Saturday night.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Edwin Ogbeghagha, appealed to the students, the Taraba State Government and the college community to remain calm, assuring that arrangements had been put in place to arrest the perpetrators and prevent a recurrence.
The Tribune also reports that students of the college had earlier staged a protest over the incident, demanding improved security around the institution and urgent action by the state government to allow them access to the newly reconstructed hostels.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Provost of the college, Mr Khikando Agyo Yavini, while addressing journalists on behalf of the Provost, Dr Mrs Dorcas Dugule, assured that adequate security would soon be deployed around and within the school campus to guarantee the safety of the students.
The Provost, on behalf of the college management, appealed to students and parents to remain calm while efforts were being made to ensure the safety and security of students at the college.
