Gombe export promotion targets Soya Beans for Export.
The Gombe state Committee on Export promotion has held a one day workshop on the Roles and challenges of State Committee on Export promotion as a driver of One-State One Product. The regional coordinator, Nigerian Export Promotion Council, North East Regional office Mr. Andy Dauda Ambikputen, who facilitated the workshop disclosed that Gombe state has comparative advantage in the production of Soya Beans over all other states in Nigeria. That is why the state government selected it as it One-state one product. He noted that ” The focus of Nigerian Export Promotion Council is the apex federal government agency which is saddled with the responsibility of promoting non oil export in Nigeria. “It has a cardinal function of promoting non oil products in the grassroots. “This committee if well harnessed can also become a formidable agency in the promotion of export goods, with the creation of commodity deport and exchange centre which will serve as off taker between this centre and farmers for export purpose we can say Gombe is ready” he added.
The permanent Secretary Ministry of Trade and Investment Alh. Mohammed Manu Malala, who noted that there are a few challenges which obstructed the flow of progress he said “Funding and adequate office space for members to execute their plans and programs are very important.
Mohammed, however advised the incoming Permanent secretary to work closely with the committee as the chairman of the committee even though he is new but with the calibre of people in the committee, especially if he works with the secretary of the committee, he will understand all there is of the committee” he added
Gombe state has since adopted Soya Beans as its One -state One product focus.
