….Commences enforcement of Riders License August 1.
The Sector commander of Federal Road Safety Corps Gombe state Dr. Godwin Omiko, has called on tricycle and motorcycle operators to support the riders license initiative of the tripartite committee as a means of sanitizing the system . He stated this today at a one day workshop organized for stakeholders in the state. Dr. Omiko said, “Jan.-March 2019 103 persons were involved in Motorcycle accident, 66 people were injured and 7 recorded death, 25 motorcycle and 2 tricyle and April -June 177 people, 92 injured case, 5 dead cases, 43 motorcycles, 4 Tricycles.”We are not interested in exercising fine. “We are interested in making Riders better in their job.”We will gladly train your members free without charges. “We must carry the message of proper driving, licensing, Proper driving costume and not overflowing dresses. “It is a duty for you as Traditional , religious leaders to talk to your members on safe driving. “As security agencies we should close ranks if all of us join hands to enforce everyone will comply. “To the Tripartite Assembly, Government had said August 1st for enforcement but we must team up to ensure a stress free, riders license exercise. “To unions, monitor your members report any form of infuriation, so that those with questionable character will be identified and dealt with” he added.
The chief Imam of Gombe Central Mosque, Mallam Aliyu Walama, in his remarks promised to support this initiative he said “There is a difference between morality and law. “As law enforcement officers you are the custodian of the law, and we are the custodian of Morality. “We are duty bound to use our offices to sensitize our members on the issue of riders license in our sermon” he noted.
Pastor Kelon Mangut, a representative of Christian Association of Nigeria, Gombe state. He said ” I have Personal experiences with Motorcyle riders, and sometimes it sets me thinking. “There is nothing wrong about the directive of the Tripartite committee on Riders License. “Disobedience to laid down rules of the land is like disobeying the lord Almighty” he noted.
Tajudeen Adeogun, Deputy Director, Department of State Security, Gombe state who represented the Director of the service in the state promised to assist the committee in enforcement. Adeogun said “We will team up to ensure the smooth process in the state” he added.
Alh. Hassan Mohammed, chairman of National Association of Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycle Riders Association of Nigeria, Gombe state chapter (NACOMTRAN) pleaded that the date for enforcement is however close but that they will comply. “He noted that he and his members have looked forward to this opportunity.
Meanwhile, Alh. Bojude Mohammed, director Gombe state internal revenue board has appealed to Tricycle and motorcycle riders to carry the message to their colleagues and to see this as a point of duty to sanitize the system and increase the revenue of the state.
Meanwhile, Justthinkingaloud90.blogspot.com, gathered that riders in the metropolis have a penchant of Destroying their Rear mirror after purchase of motorcycle Dr. Omiko, warned that such act will not be tolerated as the mirror has it function.
