…….Gombe Prisons keeping thrice the actual capacity~ state Controller of Prisons.
The Chief Judge of Gombe State, Justice Akila Hemen, has released thirty eight (38) Awaiting Trial Persons in Gombe Prisons during a Jail delivery on Thursday. In a release made available to our correspondent by the public relations officer, ASP Gambo Bade, it states that the freed inmates include the aged, those with health challenges and those
that have stayed for a longtime in custody.
The Chief Judge who was in company of other members of the criminal justice committee charged the freed inmates to be productive members of the society and avoid any act that will bring them back to the prison as inmates. “Be productive members of the society, run from any act capable of returning you back as inmates instead become agents of change”.
The State Controller of Prisons Ahmadu Adamu, in a welcome address described Gombe Prisons as a facility that is keeping thrice it’s capacity, thereby posing great danger in terms of health and security. “This is bound to make the actualization and implementation Reformatory programmes very difficult”.
CP Adamu, however appealed to major players which includes the Police, Ministry of Justice and the Courts to improve on their service delivery to ensure speedy trials and respect for human right.
