Nwaorisara Kanu,  Gombe state.

The Desk Officer, Freedom of Information Act, NYSC Gombe Miss Margaret Dakama, has called on camp participants to be part of the quest for the restoration of the values of the Scheme, which involves honest and transparent leadership.
Dakama disclosed this on thursday while delivering lectures on the Freedom of Information Act 2011 at the NYSC temporary camp ground, Amada, Gombe state.
She said Freedom of Information Act (FOIA),  ensures Government Institutions work better and more efficiently as public Institutions become aware that their decisions could be made public.
” Corps members as agents of social change and ray of hope for our country would be used especially at the grassroots to enlighten the public on the provisions contained in the Act and their right to request for information from the NYSC. This would help bring activities of the Scheme to light and avoid filling in the blanks by persons who are denied such information, thereby painting the NYSC in a bad light, thus the need for Corps members to be grounded in the Act” she said.

Corps lawyers were also used to sensitize camp participants on the Act as Corps members were asked to join FOIA Vanguard during the period of their primary Assignment.

The Freedom of Information Act was signed into law by Former President Goodluck  Jonathan on the 8th of May ,2011.  The Act enables Community members know what  budgetary allocations are made for maintenance or provision of facilities in their Communities, thereby giving them a sense of belonging.
