The governor of Gombe state Alh. Inuwa Yahaya has assured batch C stream II corps members of their safety. The governor stated this on Monday at the temporary camp ground Amada, Gombe state.
Yahaya who was represented at the swearing in ceremony by his deputy Dr. Manassah Jatau, also urged corps members to adapt and accept other tribes noting that out of 521 tribes, two have gone into extinction. “Your safety is important to us. The specie that can survive is the one that can adapt. Accept and accept other tribes, out of 521 tribes, two have gone into extinction. Instead of thinking about where to work think how by learning a skill, once you are skilled you have employment letter chipped in you” he said.
The governor also advised the corps members to bear with the state adding that majority of the corps are older than the state “bear with the state because you are older than the state as the Gombe is a child of 1996”.
Alh. Bappayo Yahaya, the head of civil service and chairman NYSC governing board also warned prospective corps members against hate speech and fake news noting that they are threats to peace and security of the nation’s democracy. “We must as agents of change sensitize citizens of our dear nation on the dangers posed, how to spot them and what to do to check the menace of fake news and hate speech. The onus is therefore lies with everyone here to make Nigeria better” he said.
Gombe NYSC Coordinator, David Markson, who appealed to corps members not to take lightly the oath. “You must respect the rules and regulations guiding the orientation course, as the camp is regimented and all camp participants must adhere strictly to time allotted to each activity”.
Justice Y S Abubakar, swore in the prospective corps members of 1,388 with 412 males and 900 females.
