Two Persons were on Tuesday confirmed dead from the early Monday morning rainfall that destroyed property and food items, valued in millions in Yalenguruza, Dawaki, Bagadaza, Idi, Pantami, Bypass areas of Gombe metropolis.
Musa Yusuf, one of the victims of the tragedy that occurred in Yalenguruza, blamed the flood on the shallow canal of the area.
While calling on relevant government agencies to come to their rescue, by providing relief materials.
He said, “We need the canal to be properly dredged.
“We just woke up yo the rain as many were preparing for work and to open their business. It wasn’t clear the direction of the rain and the duration it will last. The flood started from Dan Gusau Street and the gully joining Alherin Junction with Dan Gusau street.
“Yalenguruza, is a densely populated area of the state capital, which has numerous small scale businesses, mostly in residential areas with lockup shops.”
Meanwhile, The Gombe state Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, has sympathized with the victims of flood disaster, a delegation led by the state Deputy Governor, Dr. Manassah Jatau, visited the affected areas to inspect.
The Governor however urged the people to heed to flash flood warnings and avoid flood-prone areas as a preventive measure.
The state Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Hussaina Goje who conducted the Deputy Governor and his team round, said her Ministry is already doing everything possible to determine the extent of damage and the number of people affected.
