Gombe state Governor Inuwa Yahaya, on Thursday said the North East region has become peaceful under the current administration of the Nigerian Army.
This is coming when there is public outcry on the performance of the service chiefs and the need for change.
Yahaya stated this while playing host to the chief of Army Staff, who was on operational tour across the military formation.
He said the state although at the centre of the region has managed to sustain peaceful coexistence.
He added that his administration is open to making valuable contributions for the sustenance of peace, noting that the relationship between the state and the Nigerian Army is symbiotic in nature.
According to Yahaya, “The chief has done a lot and we must express our happiness with pride that our own has reached the peak of his career and has done very well to Nigeria and to the whole world .
“The Nigerian Army has contributed immensely in restoring peace in the North East and in wider Nigeria relatively to what was happening before the chief was appointed to what we have today. His contribution will be cherished in our lifetime.
“Gombe happens to be in the middle of the North East and as a result we are always part of the successes or failures from our sisters in neighbouring states.”
Speaking earlier, the chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai said he has been on operational tour across the military formations scattered around the region.
Buratai while appreciating the effort of Gombe state government in allocating a fitting site for the construction of 301 Artillery called for further support for the military.
“I’m here on operational visit to units and formations of Nigerian Army especially those under operation lafiya dole. It is a routine operational visit to see to the preparedness of our troops in carrying out their constitutional responsibilities,” he said.
