No fewer than 150 private buildings accommodate, Gombe state ministries department and Agencies across the state.
Secretary to the Gombe State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Njodi, on Thursday described the development where government operations were conducted in rented buildings as a ‘misnomer’.
Njodi disclosed this on Thursday while answering questions on how the state can block leakages, at a Sectoral media parley, held in the government house to commemorate the 24th Anniversary of Gombe and 60th Anniversary of Nigeria.
He stated that efforts are ongoing by the current administration to relocate most of the ministries to a soon to be constructed complex.
According to Njodi, “Government operations in rented quarters, is actually a misnomer. That is why when governor Inuwa Yahaya came on board one of the things he hopes to achieve is to leave a lasting legacy by constructing a mega complex that will be called the state Secretariat, not the one we have now in ministry of works, housing and transportation.
“We just did a head count yesterday, I can’t tell why I asked but was surprised to find that the state is renting not less than 150 houses for operations of government. You can see what it means to have this amount for renting of quarters.
“We feel if we had a complex that can take most of them even though there are certain agencies by their specialty are not supposed to operate within the same complex government will save cost. But the idea of the governor is that soon people will be attended to, in the come into the soon to be commissioned complex and get their issues resolved within one entity.
“Government is working on that and very soon will make a statement by going to flag off the foundation laying ceremony.”
