Billiri Protest: Commission of inquiry receives 192 petitions

Gombe state Commission of inquiry into Billiri violent protests says it has so far received 192 petitions, adding that 40 cases have been treated.
Recall that on 19th of April, Governor Muhammadu Yahaya inaugurated the commission to find out the remote and immediate causes of the Billiri violent protests, following what the community termed imposition on the ‘Mai Tangle stool‘ and to make appropriate recommendations to the government on measures of preventing future occurrence.
The secretary of the Commission, Barr. Musa Sa’idu made this known during an interview with Journalists shortly after the commission’s sitting on Tuesday.
Sa’idu explained that the commission is satisfied with the way the sitting is going, stressing that so far they don’t have any challenge.
He called on people to cooperate with the commission in providing possible solutions and measures that would prevent future occurrence of such violent protests not only in Billiri but the state in general.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Police Gombe state Command appeared before the commission and answered some questions on a memoranda filed to the commission.
Barrister Uchema Thomas who is the O.C legal of the Command promised that the Nigerian police Gombe state Command is ever ready to support the Commission of inquiry to deliver on its mandate.
Also, Members of Tangle traditional Council appeared before the Commission and applied for adjournment of the hearing because they don’t have a counsel.
The commission however, agreed and fixed the 25th of this May, as date of their hearing and they are expected to come with counsels of their choice.
