Gombe Gov mourns COAS, others says his passing ‘National tragedy’

Gombe state governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, has commiserated with the President, Muhammadu Buhari, over the demise of Chief of Army staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru and other senior military officers in a fatal air crash in Kaduna on Friday.
Governor Yahaya, in a statement, signed by Ismaila Misilli, Director General of Government House Press, described the incident as a national tragedy coming at a time the military and other security agencies are intensifying efforts to combat terrorism, banditry and other security challenges bedevilling the country.
Governor Inuwa described the late Chief of Army staff as a gallant officer and fine gentleman who demonstrated courage and exemplary leadership while discharging his duties.
The statement partly read, “The late army helmsman was at the forefront since assuming office in leading the fight against insurgency, banditry and other forms threats with renewed vigour to bring enduring peace to the troubled parts of the country and defend the territorial integrity of Nigeria.
“On behalf of the government and people of Gombe state, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the immediate families of the late Lt. General Attahiru and all the deceased officers and crew members, their colleagues and associates as well as Nigerian Armed Forces.”
The Governor, prayed Almighty God to accept their souls and grant them eternal rest, adding that the officer’s gallantry and heroism will be sorely missed, especially at this trying moment in the history of the nation.
