Gombe Member Recall: Simon Karu’s aide faults process

Following growing calls for the recall of a member representing Kaltungo/Shongom Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Simon Karu, by group identified as Youths in Pero Community Shongom Local Government Area.
The chief of staff to the member, Langs Layelmenson, in an interview with our correspondent described the increasing calls as blackmail, adding that it would not stand.
Layelmenson said the call is not the opinion of the entire constituents in the local government but that of an individual, adding that the member has performed outstanding well in two years.
Recall that the group under the aegies of Youths in Pero Community in Shongom local government area of Gombe state said they have commenced recall process following the honourable member’s inability to empower youths of the community with tools after making promises.
According to Layelmenson, Covid-19 is a major cause of for the disruption of Karu Simon’s programmes, revealing that the member has in the last two years shown commitment to work, zeal to alleviate the sufferings of constituents and attract dividends of democracy to his people.
He said, “Is a blackmail actually, I will forward you the message he sent to honourable that he wants to be his Media consultant that he should be paid over 500 thousand naira every year. That they will handle his Social media more like a consultant. Honourable Karu said he is not interested. So they have been pushing for things.
“There is an empowerment programme ongoing, we are working on it, we are still gathering names and people that will be empowered. So the guy, went about that the Honourable has not done this and that without completing the process. Forgetting that the Honourable has 4 years in office, instead of waiting for him to see if it would not be done in the entire four years. In fact, what he (honourable Simon Karu), has done in 2 years, interms of achievement has surpassed what others did.
“It is just a guy. The community has not said anything, we are waiting for them but if they refuse to say anything they are part of it. We expect the community to come out and debunk it.”
He added that the process of empowerment would be completed as soon as Covid-19 challenges decline.
