MENTORSHIP: SECRET TO PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL GROWTH
By Akintola Oluwatobi
Thank you for reading this. I’m so glad you are here.
In my last article, I talked about ” Not everyone will make this money”. It is not a statement made in error. I attempted to re-awaken our mind to see issues differently from how every other person will see it.
The point I was making is the need for you to stand out. A lot of people are into what you are doing. Competition is rife! So, there is need for you to reinvent and innovate for you to stand out and stand a chance.
I concluded by saying “when you have the same attitude with them, you will have the same result”. Looking at this statement, in as much that we need to dare to be different, we should bare in mind there are leaders in our field. There are people who have carved a niche for themselves in your industry. Is anything wrong in emulating and following the foot steps of those ahead of us? NO?
Mentoring is the way forward. We all have a need for insight that is outside our normal life, education and experience. The power of mentoring is that it creates a one of a kind opportunity for collaboration, goal achievement and problem solving.
Mentoring is a developmental partnership between a mentor and mentee in which the mentor shares knowledge, skills, information and perspective that quicken the personal and professional growth of the mentee.
Mentorship will avail you the opportunity to build connection with a more knowledgeable and experienced fellow in a particular field. Mentors. They’ve been there, done it and seen it all.
When you humble and submit yourself to be tutored under an ‘able Mentor’, you will have access to their success template which you only need to duplicate to arrive where they are. No need for profligacy, you will avoid all errors and teething problems associated with the field. Mentoring is a stepping stone to personal and professional growth.
Mentoring is applicable in all field of human endeavors. Whether in business or as a parent, look for a suitable mentor that understand your dream. Identify the skills, knowledge or goal you want to achieve and communicate them to your mentor. When building all ‘other ships’ build mentorship relationship too.
Remember, no two situations are exactly the same. So always wear your creative thinking and innovative cap.
