Covid-19: Gombe receives 100,154 doses for second phase
No less than 87,360 doses of Moderna and 12,794 doses of Astrazeneca have been received in Gombe State, totalling 100,154 ahead of the second phase of coronavirus vaccination.
Announcing the number of doses delivered to the state, Deputy Governor, Dr. Manassah Jatau revealed that over 67 points have been designated across the 11 Local Government Areas.
Recall that prior to commencement of this phase over 47,000 have so far been inoculated with Astrazeneca vaccine in the state.
Jatau who also superintends the state’s Covid-19 management committee, noted that this number would help the state in vaccinating a wider reach, saying “This over 100,000 is just for this time around, the third, fourth wave will come.
“Like I said, this is an exercise that will continue uptil the year 2022, so there is no cause for alarm. We are ready for all to be vaccinated. The thing is if you take now, don’t take again don’t be too greedy.
“For us to continue with this phase 67 points in 11 LGA’s have been designated including the state capital for people to access the vaccines easily.”
While commenting on the batch of vaccines received, the deputy governor lamented the resurgence of coronavirus globally.
Jatau further enjoined residents above 18 years to present themselves for vaccination, noting that those yet to complete their doses can take advantage of the second phase.
He said, “We have received the second phase of Covid-19 vaccine that will be used on our citizens. On Friday, 27th of August 2021 the state received a batch of over 100,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines made for the second phase of the vaccination exercise.
“Recently, there has been an upsurge or resurgence in the cases of Covid-19 in the country, in the world. The arrival of the vaccination exercise is therefore timely, germane and apt in this time where the need for the vaccine has proven to be the only way we can have safe and effective means of preventing the spread of this disease and also to mitigate the effect by event we are attacked by it.
“I’m very much aware there are those who took just one dose, before they could get the second one unfortunately the dose was short, at the moment we have the it on ground should people should come and complete it.”
On his part, Commissioner for Health Dr. Habu Dahiru explained that 87,360 doses of moderna and 12,794 doses of Astrazeneca would help augment the existing shortfall in the state.
According to him, “All vaccines are the same just like paracetamol having different brands. They have the same potency, the same efficacy, same performance.
“Those that have taken Astrazeneca as their first dose, can still take Astrazeneca as their second dose. Beginners can start with moderna. So which ever one you take is the same, it will give you the same effect.”
