Faida Community Development Initiative organises football competition in Gona

Faida Community Development Initiative in partnership with Actionaid Nigeria, has organised a football match in Gona, Akko local government area of Gombe State.

Speaking shortly after the competition, The Executive Director, Mrs Maryam Simon Karga noted that game was part of the project the organisation is currently implementing in two local government areas namely; Akko and Kwami with four communities.
“Peer Education programme is already in place for the women and girls. A Community response team is also in place and now we are here to solicit your support and also to let you know that you as youths in this community you also have a role to play in eradicating Sexual and Gender Based Violence,” Karga said.
The Executive Director urged participants to master the act of self control, while stressing the need to defend women in their various communities.
She added, “They should not be the one to cause them harm. The fact that a woman or a girl walks in a lonely path should not be enough reason to rape her, they should always give good advice to each other and warn each other against such acts.”
Gadado Adamu expressed the how grateful their are to the organisation for getting them involved and for providing them with a new ball and twenty four sets of JC, he added that they will give their full support towards eradicating Sexual and Gender Based Violence in the community.
However, The teams were provided with jersey and football. Periscope Nigeria reports that the social activity was geared towards imbibing the people with sportsmanship, tolerance and good-neighbourliness.
