How Ekiti woman accepted 50k from family of grandchild’s alleged rapist
by Akintola Morakinyo Oluwatobi
The biblical saying ‘A person’s enemies will include members of his own family’ cannot be truer or what should we say to the despicable act of an Ekiti Grandmother who collected the sum of fifty thousand naira from the family of the alleged rapist of her three year old grand daughter in order to sweep the case under the carpet.
Are we still going to blame this act on the government or ripple effect of bad governance? This is purely extinction of morals and right values on the surface of the earth.
Olarewaju Seun, a teenager was arrested for having carnal knowledge of the three-year old girl.
Can someone tell me what is enjoyable in a three year old? Why is paedophilia cases on the rise everyday with ridiculously young girls some of whom are still babies? Or maybe there are any underlying motives we are yet to unravel.
Back to the issue of the greedy grandma that’s if she’s worthy of such title. One could have thought justice will be served when she heard about the defilement of her grandchild. Alas! Mama demanded the sum of fifty thousand naira for an ‘amicable settlement’ of the case.
The money collected was converted for her personal use. She was arrested afterwards and now in custody. She and the alleged rapist will be arraigned as and when due.
Back then Grandmas don’t take issues concerning their grandchildren lightly. ‘They will carry the matter for head’ so much that you will be forced to ask if they have never given birth. Baring old age, you can mistaken them to be the biological mother of their grandchildren. So gone are the days when Grandmas were more concerned than the biological mothers.
The granddaughter is her blood no doubt but would she have followed the same path if the child was her direct offspring. Considering all that is happening nowadays, firing our children like an unguarded stone released from a catapult is outdated and overstayed his welcome.
Somewhere else in the same Ado-Ekiti, on September 24th, one Ayodeji Ọjọ was also arrested in connection with another rape case. The suspect ripped apart the victim’s jean skirt and pant and forcibly had his way.
Rape cases are on the rise. Little effort has been made to checkmate the ugly trend. Personally, i have come in contact with about three to four ladies who are victims of rape. Something baffling is they were raped by relations or people close to the family.
As a parent or parent to be, know that there is more to being a parent than being called Papa or Mama bornboy. Male children needs to be taught to see a girl more than a sexual instrument and also teach the female that there is more to them than their body.
On a final note, dear parents/parents to be, the actions you take or do not take will make or mar your future.
