Gombe saves N77.304 m, uncovers 901 Ghost Workers
Gombe State government, on Tuesday, said it has saved N77.304 million by uncovering 901 ghost workers for the month of September.
Our correspondent reports that this initiative was adopted by the current administration to get value for the huge expenses invested in the civil service, geared towards a robust and active staff, using Integrated Payroll Payment Gateway and Human Resource Information Management System (G-SIPHMIS).
Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Muhammad Magaji, made this disclosure while briefing journalists at the Treasury House, Gombe.
He said the ghost civil servants, failed to show up for biometric capture in their respective local governments.
Magaji told journalists that those that were suspended from the payroll, are under investigation and would be replaced if indicted.
He added that out of the 11 council areas, 10 had been captured in the biometric exercise.
According to Magaji, “731 were suspended from payroll, while 170 is under investigation and the total number that the government is taking action on is 901.”
The commissioner revealed that at the end of the exercise, new recruitment will commence in the civil service.
He noted that Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, had promised to recruit capable hands to run government business.
Magaji added, “the governor had also promised to recruit over 1,000 teachers, with a view improving the education sector.”
