Gombe residents bemoan fuel hike in the metropolis
Some residents of Gombe State on Monday bemoaned increasing queue around major fuel stations within the metropolis.
Our correspondent observed that most of the stations were either shut, or dispensing from two points, thereby increasing the number of time spent.
However, the price ranges from 175 to 200 in most of the areas visited by Periscope Nigeria.
According to Mustapha Umaru, a Motorcycle rider, the queue may be caused by unforseen circumstances.
He explained that he has spent useful time at the fuel station, waiting to be attended to.
According to Umaru, “I have been here at the NNPC sabonline area waiting to be attended to as you must have observed a number of the stations are not operational.
“I hope it will get to my turn. Some of my colleagues have bought at varying prices from N175 – N200, some of us are ready to buy but it should be made available.”
He noted that his charges would be dependent on both the availability of fuel and the amount bought, adding that, “You don’t expect me to buy at high price and charge the same care from passengers. It will be shared.”
Also speaking, Musa Daniel, a passenger urged government to ensure that adequate measures are put in place to ensure that there won’t be scarcity.
Daniel said, “I hope government and other regulatory bodies will step in to ensure that we don’t experience untold hardship. It has been difficult getting bikes and fortunately when you see them you are asked to pay almost double of what is expected, but I don’t blame them they need to get their money back.”
Findings obtained from Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, proves that residents have been involved in panic buying due to the season.
A source who pleaded anonymity at the Authority, noted that efforts were on to ensure the queue doesn’t persist.
“The one they distributed on Friday was sold on Saturday and Sunday that is the cause of the queue but by tomorrow we will go on inspection,” the source added.
