AFCON 2021: Vincent Aboubakar’s Brace Lift Hope for Cameroon as they humble Burkina Faso in Opener
The long awaited 33rd edition of the African continental tournament, AFCON, finally kicks off with the hosts, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon taking on the Stallions of Burkina Faso
in the tournament opener at the Stade Omnisport Paul Biya in Yaounde.
The Indomitable Lions began their bid for their sixth Africa Cup of Nations title in a bright and comfortable note as they took all the three points of the game as the match winner.

Cameroon last won the tournament five years ago and are kin to claim a sixth title, adding to titles previously won in 1984, 1988, 2000 and 2002 respectively.
Vincent Aboubakar’s brace from two penalty spot kick, within five minutes in the first-half helped Cameroon overturn a goal deficit, which came from Gustavo Sangare.
This was converted by Betrand Traore’s cross after an howler from goalkeeper Andre Onana in the 24th minute but the lone goal could not stop Burkina Faso’s 2-1 defeat in the opening match of the continental competition on Sunday.
