Civilians should join hands with uniform men – Chair Gombe legion
Chairman Nigeria Legion, Gombe State chapter Sgt. Adamu Dogo (retd.) has called for collaborative efforts in resolving security challenges.
Dogo noted that surmounting issues bordering on insurgency, banditry were possible, once the right attitudes are imbibed.
He stated this on Saturday in an interview with journalists, during the wreath laying ceremony at Pantami Stadium Gombe.
According to him, “We have to join head together, tighten our plans so that we can move together to make sure matter of security challenges is over.”
The retired war veteran explained that government is working assiduously to end security challenges, stressing that individuals should take responsibility by personally protecting their territory.
“Government is trying but you know Nigeria of today, not only uniform men, everyone- civilians. We all should be security conscious. In your house you are a security man, whatever you see that is bad should be reported,” Dogo said.
Responding to question on purported half gratuity payment to members the chairman, urged government to resolve the differences, noting that his members were suffering despite their meritorious service to fatherland.
He said, “Some people protested but as you know they can’t protest without being owed. Maybe there is a problem on ground. Government should help us to settle all those things. I can’t tell how many years because I’m just coming in.”
In his speech, Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya said Nigeria would overcome the present challenges.
Yahaya who was represented by Dr. Manassah Jatau urged residents to find applicable solution and utilise them accordingly.
“Much as these challenges remain with us, we are determined to overcome them. I urge all of us here to find out these solutions and apply them accordingly. This is possible as we abide by our culture and above all look unto God and go by his manual of living together,” Yahaya said.
