COVID-19 Affects Senegal’s 2021 AFCON Squad, others
The negative effects of the global Covid19 Pandemic has again caused serious setback in the Senegalese National Football Team camp ahead of the 2021 AFCON hosted in Cameron.
Champions league winner and Chelsea first choice goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has tested positive for Covid, this reports comes officially from Senegalese media outlet Taggat.
Edouard Mendy, tested positive few days before Senegal kicked off their campaign at the 2021 AFCON in Cameron on Monday with Zimbabwe in their Group B encounter, with all hopes of starting their campaign with a win to grab a better stand in the tournament.
Nine Senegalese players so far, are self-isolating as the camp of the team happens to witness a mini outbreak of Covid, which in turn has left a mark of setback in the team.
There is no doubt that Chelsea and Senegalese first choice goal keeper’s absence might affect Senegal’s chances at the AFCON due to his exploit and top notch performance.
Also, Napoli and Senegalese defender, Kalidou Koulibaly and Senegalese star player Famara Diedhiou had also tested positive for the virus.
This also cuts across Napoli’s hit man and Koulibaly’s Nigerian teammate Victor Osimhen who is also going to be missing out of this year’s edition of the 2021 AFCON in Cameron after testing positive for COVID-19.
The Pharoahs of Egypt also had a pain to bear as it’s second choice goalkeeper Mohamed Abu-Jabal also tested positive for corona virus, just one day before the squad plan to travel to Cameroon for the AFCON.
It is also revealed that legendary goalkeeper, Essam El-Hadary, who is also part of Carlos Queiroz’s coaching crew also tested positive for COVID-19.
