Abia Govt visits Gombe over killing of indigenes
Due to the killings of nine persons in Abia State at the cattle market, the government on Monday sent a delegation to condole families of bereaved in Gombe State.
Recall that out of the given death tow killed by hoodlums, seven are said to be indigenes of Gombe State.
According to Yahuza Yusuf, Acting President Cattle Dealers Association of Nigeria, no government from the south had shown sympathy to his Association like the Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
He disclosed that the governor who made it clear that he can’t compensate for lives lost, promised N2 million each to families which was yet to be redeemed, adding that about N150,000 had been given provided.
“We asked him to pay for our damages he said he can’t pay all our damage but he gave us at least each cow N150,000 but he promised to support affected families survive, promised additional N2 million to families but is yet to pay.”
Yusuf revealed that his administration went to Abia purposely to bring back members, noting that the Ikpeazu objected saying those killed were also Abians, “He said the people were under his care, he gave us good attention, we stayed with him for more than three hours. That is the only governor that did that to us since all these things happened in the South,”Yusuf added.
On his part, representative of Abia State Governor, Kalu Ogbu, Paramount Ruler of Abriba expressed sadness at the killings.
“I’m here to extend our sympathy and condolences of the people and government of Abia State. It was sad and I don’t know how to explain it. There is no word to explain what happened as it was the handiwork of misguided fellows. Thank God our governor has taken up the responsibilities to make sure those behind it are caught to face the wrath of the law,” he said.
Speaking, Deputy Governor of Gombe State Manassah Jatau, who represented Governor Muhammadu Yahaya blamed the recent killings to abandonment of culture and religious tenets.
He said, “We are now engaging in so many things that unexplainable, you can’t explain what is happening. Today, we are witnessing the reverse of things and I will attribute it to abandonment of culture and possibly our religious leaders must have failed.
“Most of these things that happens are induced by drugs we must go back and starting our children, youths to reduce this menace.”
On his part, Lamido Akko, Mohammed Atiku lauded the moves of both state governments to resolve the current issues.
He revealed that the Abia State Governor, had done alot to ensure the return of peace in the affected communities.
