Benue AWG tasks Govt on release of Family Planning budget

The Benue State family planning Advocacy Working Group (AWG), has suggested early release of family planning budget to help address the reproductive health needs of women in the state.
The group which lamented the non-release of the 10 million budgeted for family planning in 2021 noted that it has contributed to the High maternal mortality in the state
AWG Vice chairman Dr. Chisa Ugboaja who made this known in an accountability meeting in makurdi, urged all stakeholders including the media to ensure the timely release of the 2022 budget to curb maternal deaths in the state

The state family planning coordinator Mrs comfort Sor said 159 persons were engaged in community dialogue on the involvement of males in family planning practices while 150 persons were sensitized on FP utilisation and importance of attending antenatal and postnatal care ,delivering in health facilities and male involvement in reproductive health issues to prevent maternal and neonatal deaths

Mrs Sor added that 100 community health extension workers across the three senatorial zones were also trained on the administration of long active reversible contraceptive and encouraged women to plan their family for a healthier life.

Earlier, the representative of Pathfinder International Mr Yusuf Nuhu said the accountability meeting was to see how far the state AWG had gone in the area of family planning activities identify the gaps and work towards ensuring timely release of adequate fund for FB in the state#.
