Unity: Mai Kaltungo advocates for alternative to firewood
The Mai Kaltungo Engineer Saleh Mohammed has advocated for alternative cooking measures to enhance protection and preservation of the environment against the consequences of climate change and global warming on human and animal survival as well as preventing conflicts in societies.
Addressing members of the National Institute of Security studies in his palace on Tuesday, Engr. Saleh Mohammed noted that the nexus between climate change and conflict as real but can be minimized through scientifically proven alternative initiatives that would assist the people depend less on the use of firewood for cooking and other domestic purposes.
He noted that due measures being put in place by chiefdom with the support of the state state government herders/farmers clashes has been adequately addressed in the chiefdom, he however advised that more enlightenment was needed for the people to effectively key into government’s 3G initiative to protect the environment.
Mohammed further explained that with increasing population, poor farming techniques and the needs for livestock rearing to strive conflicts are bound to happen because of limited space, water and pasture alternative measures are needed in addition to intensive public enlightenment for the people to buy into government’s initiative aimed at protection of the environment as well as assist in minimizing conflicts in communities.
The Mai Kaltungo also noted that trust and confidence building being promoted by traditional council among the various communities regardless of their diverse religious and cultural has remained the secret behind the peaceful coexistence prevalent in the chiefdom.
The team lead Mr Jibrin Yaro earlier briefed the Mai Kaltungo on the mission of the group among others to interact with him on consequences of climate change and global warming in relation to increase in conflicts in most parts of Africa.
