EFCC arrests Gombe NSIP officials over collection of 1,000 for Identity Card
No fewer than five officials of the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP), have been arrested by the zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The NSIP is a Federal Government safety established in 2016, geared towards reducing poverty across the country by ensuring equitable distribution of resources amongst the children, youths, women population.
Our correspondent reports that the officials were arrested following report that they collected 1,000 charge for Identity card of beneficiaries.
An official of the anti graft agency who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent on Friday that they were released but would be made to report through the time the investigation would be concluded.
According to him, over 300 beneficiaries of NPower had already made payment within the Gombe Local Government Area, adding that they have been released.
He said, “We arrested some officials of Gombe State Social Investment Programme during physical verification at NYSC Gombe State LGA office Gombe.”
Another official of the programme who pleaded anonymity said they acted based on directives from Arc. Habu Shinga, newly appointed Special Adviser to Governor Muhammadu Yahaya on Social Investment Programme.
