Gombe records 10 cholera induced death since June
No fewer than 10 persons have reportedly died based on Cholera infection in Gombe, since June 2022, with 236 cases listed so far.
Addressing Journalists at the Public Health Emergency Operations Centre, Dr. Habu Dahiru, Commissioner for Health said the state had instituted prompt public health actions for prevention and control.

Periscope Nigeria reports that in 2021 Gombe State alongside 33 other states recorded a total 2,373 cases from June to December.
Represented by the Executive Secretary Primary Healthcare Development Agency Dr. Shuaibu Abdulrahaman, Dahiru said government has activated an incident management system for control of cholera at the PHEOC.
He said, “This year, from 30th of June, 2022 we have had sporadic cases of cholera in Balanga LGA and because of the preparedness and prompt response, it has been largely subdued without escalation. 10 persons have since died from June 2022 to date.
“We are witnessing an increased downpour of rainfall and resulting flooding in many parts of the state and this resulted into cases of outbreaks in eight wards across Balanga, Yalmatu Deba, Nafada, Funakaye and Gombe LGAs.”
While stating the efforts of Government to contain the spread of cholera in the state, Dahiru revealed that efforts were on towards house-house sensitisation and distribution of water treatment tablets in all affected communities.
“13 cholera treatment units have been established across five LGA’s of the state for management of cases free of charge.
“Active surveillance presently going on across all LGA’s. The governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has ensured that all the needed resources for free management of cases at the treatment centres and containment of the outbreak have been provided,” Dahiru added.
