Gombe FRSC launches 2022 EMBER Months campaign, scales up enforcement
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Gombe State Command has flagged-off its “Operation Zero Tolerance” 2022 EMBER Months Campaign in the state with the theme “Avoid Speeding, Overloading and Unsafe Tyres to Arrive Alive.”
The Corps Commander of the FRSC in Gombe State, Mr Felix Theman, stated this in his remarks while flagging off the campaign in Gombe on Tuesday said his command would scale up enforcement of all traffic rules and regulations to ensure safety of motorists during the period.
Theman said no fewer than 94 deaths were recorded in 301 crashes from January till date across the state.
He stated that in the 301 crashes no fewer than 845 persons had sustained various degree of injury which he said was unfortunate.
He attributed the causes of the crashes recorded to speed, overloading, wrongful overtaking, faulty vehicles and failure to comply with speed limits.
He stated that personnel of Gombe State command had stepped up surveillance to ensure safety on roads through additional deployment of patrol vans and ambulances.
He added that personnel had been properly trained and deployed to ensure quick response to crashes especially at nights and “we are collaborating with the state’s ministry of health in our efforts to ensure speedy treatment of those rescued.”
The sector commander called on motorists to avoid the temptation of hurrying while driving, taking alcoholic drinks and drugs abuse, use of phones and other acts that could cause crashes.
“There is no vaccine for road crashes, the only vaccine is doing the right thing,” he said.
Theman also cautioned motorcyclists in the state against any form of illegality.
“In the last three months, the Gombe State command of the Corps apprehended over a thousand motorcycles across the state, those with fake, incomplete or outright lack of proper registration were made to comply with appropriate procedures.”
The FRSC official also cautioned against reckless driving during the campaigns, adding that all traffic rules and regulations would be enforced.
On his part, Gov Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State urged residents of the state to imbibe the right attitude while using the roads in the state.
Represented by his deputy, Dr Manassah Jatau, Yahaya stated that his administration had invested a lot of resources in the provision of road infrastructure and solar street lights towards ensuring the safety of motorists in the state.
