Three years on NEDC still making millions of the sub-region happy

No doubt, since the establishment of North-East Development Commission by President Muhammadu Buhari, the affected zone made up of Borno,Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa and Taraba states have enjoyed remarkable and tremendous transformation in infrastructural developments such as the rehabilitation, settlement and reconstruction of roads, houses for victims of insurgency and a host of others.

The NEDC, “among other things, is to receive and manage funds from allocation of the Federal Account and international donors for the settlement, rehabilitation and reconstruction of roads, houses and business premises of victims of insurgency as well as tackling menace of poverty, illiteracy level, ecological problems”, these they have achieved within the little time of three years of its operations.
In Gombe State for instance, the NEDC is a golden fish that has no hiding place because all aspects of developments both for individuals and collectively have been touched positively by the Commission.
These ranged from construction of new structures such as schools, houses, roads, hospitals, purchase of vehicles, installation of giant transformers, and reconstruction even in other states.
Others are rehabilitation, settlement of Internally displaced persons, tackling menace of poverty, illiteracy level and giving the people skills acquisitions with funds and kits to kick -start the businesses of their choice.
On Tuesday, the Gombe State Government received assorted items worth millions of Naira from the North East Development Commission to flood victims that happened recently in the state.
The items were to cushion the effect of flood disaster which ravaged some parts of the state as parts of their core mandates and objectives.
The items included rice, mats, shades materials, blankets, and wears were presented to the State government by the Representative of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management in company of the Managing Director, North East Development Commission at their Central Stores, Bogo, in the Gombe metropolis.
The State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya was full of praise for the huge assistance, it regularly receives from the Commission.
The Governor was represented by the Deputy Governor, Manassah Daniel Jatau, who lauded NEDC for always coming to the aid of Gombe State citizens whenever there is any calamity.
The Deputy Governor assured the Representative of Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, and the Managing Director, North East Development Commission of judicious distribution of the items.
At the courtesy call earlier in his office , the Deputy Governor noted with delight that the two organisations, have been very supportive to Gombe State and assured them of partnership towards meeting the needs of the people in the state.
He said, ” I assure you that whatever has been donated shall get to those they were meant for. We shall employ due diligence to ensure that. We shall get to you on how we did it.”

They are currently constructing houses for people in the state and doing a lot of interventions. Also speaking, Managing Director of the North East Development Commission, Alhaji Mohammed Goni Alkali, told the Deputy Governor that their purposes of their visits to Gombe State is an interventionist Organisation in the Sub-region, the Commission has come to make donations to the victims of flood disaster in the state and to cushion the effects on the affected victims.
He used the opportunity to commiserate with the state government, victims and their families over recent flood disaster in the state.
They commended the state government taken prompt action to alleviate the sufferings of the people and to forestall future reoccurrence praying God that the situation should not re- occured.
While the he symbolic presentation of the items was performed by the Executive Director Humanitarian NEDC Musa Umar Yashi, in the presence of the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of the Commission at the event.

Rep Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Group Cpt. Sadiq Shehu, Ali Grema Dir. Humanitarian of the Ministry of Humanitarian, Executive Director Operations NEDC, Maiwada Omar, among other staff of the Commission.
