National honours: Why Gov Yahaya was not considered – NAN MD
The Managing Director of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr. Buki Ponle, has proffered suggestion on why the Governor of Gombe State Muhammadu Yahaya, was excluded from the national honours awarded some of his colleagues recently by the Federal Government.
According to Mr. Ponle, who acknowledged the strides achieved by Governor Yahaya since his ascension to office in May 2019, adding that only the achievements highlighted in the media are noted.
“No matter the achievements recorded by a government, nothing would be said about them if they are not in the media. At best, it would amount to clapping with only one hand,” the NAN Managing Director said.
Ponle, made the suggestion when the Special Adviser to the Gombe Governor on Strategy and Information Management, Alhaji Ahmed Shuaibu-Gara Gombe, paid him a courtesy call in his office at the NAN Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.
He, however, said the agency would give total support to the Governor towards ensuring the propagation of his numerous people-oriented programmes in the state.
“As an agency, we are ready to all within our capacity and mandate to project Gombe State to the world in the shortest possible time,” he said.
Earlier, the Special Adviser on strategy and media management had called cooperation between his office and the news agency.
He said he was committed to filling the information gaps that existed in Gombe State before his assumption of office.
“I have since reached out to partners and other stakeholders with the aim to reposition the state according to the mandate given to me by my principal,” Alhaji Gombe said, adding that his office would enhance the job of journalists in the state through training and retraining as well as welfare resulting from a pact signed with the state’s Ministry of Trade.
