Kaltungo Carnival: Gombe Gov calls on residents to partner with leaders

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya has called on residents to partner leaders in entrenching peace and understanding, adding that it would ensure progress.
Yahaya, made this disclosure at the seventh edition of Kaltungo cultural carnival held at Olusegun Obasanjo stadium Kaltungo Local Government Area of Gombe State.
He decried the current security situation in the country, stressing that there should be collaboration from both the leadership and followership without which there wouldn’t be development.
He said, “The situation of the country and particularly the situation of Gombe State I related it with what obtains in Kaltungo and the leadership that is being provided by His Royal Highness the Mai Kaltungo in this critical time in the Nigerian history.
“I like to urge each and everyone of us not only the leadership but to the followership to join hands so that we can uplift Nigeria and uplift our various communities and together we shall live in peace and harmony.
“No development, No progress, and no effort is supposed to be wasted in times like this with regards to the aim of achieving peace and tranquility in our state and country . I like to add that the followership should make sure they abide with the rules of the game particularly the political class especially now that we are heading to the general election in early 2023.”
While commending Mai Kaltungo for his contributions to unity through the carnival, the governor advised the residents to pray for peaceful co-existence and electioneering process.
“I believe with the guidance and protection that we get from the people, the leadership and our law enforcement agencies we shall go through this when we pray and God answers our pray, we should continue praying because God answers prayers of His own people. We are the people of God, we are the servants of God, God created us for us to live in peace and harmony and this event is helping to provide the bond to ensure peace, tranquility and security.
“I urge all to be law abiding support the effort and initiative of people like the Mai Kaltungo and I urge all the followership to follow the correct direction we we are giving in this state so that together we can move forward,” Yahaya said.
Also speaking, Chairman of the occasion Jamilu Gwamna said the occasion would ignite the much needed unity, praying God to sustain the enjoyed peace.
“Unity brings about development and growth to the people that is what the carnival is working to ensure,” Gwamna said.
On his part, Emir of Gombe Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, who was represented by Dr. Sani Jauro, said the imperative of culture would not be overemphasised.
“Culture should not be taken likely, it should be a means of unity. It is your identity.” Shehu said.
While lauding the leadership drive of the governor, the monarch added,”let me also commend the governor of Gombe for the peace we are enjoying ad the level playing ground. Without security, this programme would not have held.”
Also, Chairman Media Sub Committee of 2022 Kaltungo Festival, Umar Kaltungo said the carnival provides annual opportunity for tribes within the local government to exhibit their cultures.
“They usually display their food, and attire. We usually invite people from across the country to witness culture in its reality. Kaltungo is arguably one of the most peaceful societies in the North-East,” Kaltungo said.
