The Gombe State government has been commended for approving a budget line for Gender Equity and Social Inclusion for the first time, being influenced by USAID State2State.

The Team Lead Muhammad Abubakar with Zariyatu Abubakar

The commendation came from the Gombe State Team Lead of USAID State Activity, Muhammad Abubakar.

 

Abubakar, stated this at a one-day meeting with women from different sectors to discuss on effects of violence on women and girls as part of the global campaign to end Violence Against Women and Girls at Flourish hotel Gombe on Wednesday.

The Team Lead also used the opportunity to congratulate the State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for being awarded as the most Gender Friendly Governor.

The Gender Equity and Social Inclusion Specialist, Mercy Filli, while discussing on the significance of violence on Women and Girls in Gombe vis-a-vis  their full participation in Governance.

 

She noted with concern the few number of Women in decision making positions and inclusion in governance which State2State Activity has been pushing adding “success is being recorded.”

Filli also revealed that STS has also influenced the recruitment of Teachers including Persons living with Disabilities (PWDs), in the recent recruitment of teachers in Gombe State.
