Gombe Assembly Confirms Halima Mohammed as Chief Judge

The Acting Chief Judge of Gombe State Justice Halima Sa’addiya Mohammed, has been confirmed as the substantive Chief Judge of the state by the members of the state House of Assembly.

The confirmation followed her screening during the plenary session on Thursday.
Our Correspondent reports that with the confirmation Mohammed has emerged fourth substantive Chief Judge of Gombe State, after Justice Joseph Awak, who was third.
Justice Halima Mohammed who was recommended by the National Judicial Council two weeks ago, as she has been on acting capacity since the retirement of Justice Awak.
While responding to questions before her confirmation, Justice Mohammed said upon her resumption, with the support of the State Government, she has renovated many courts in the state in order to create a conducive environment for judges to discharge their duties, “We are working towards going digital with judicial activities by requesting for computers, generators and other items from the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy,” she said.
According to her, Prof Isah Pantami, has responded positively to the request, adding that she would do more when confirmed, so as to make the judicial arm of government better.
In an interview with newsmen shortly after her screening, Justice Halima Mohammed, said she would discharge her duties without fear or favour and ensure reforms in the justice system and ensure delay in the delivery of justice is tackled.
The confirmed chief justice said with the support of the government, “the judicial system in the state will be improved and cases will move at a faster rate to a logical conclusion,” she added.
She pledged to work and give her maximum support to other arms of Government for the good of the state, while calling on parents to ensure proper upbringing of their children as the cases they see in court are very pathetic; attributing some of the mischievous behaviours to lack of parental care and proper training.
